Content: The AKC's Novice Trick Dog (TKN) title is an official AKC title listed on the dog’s title record. To earn the title, the dog must perform 10 skills from the Novice list. (If a dog has a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certificate or title on record at AKC, it can do 5 Novice tricks (CGC + 5) to earn the Novice title.)

Each week in class, 2 new tricks are taught. The Novice Trick Dog test is given on the 6th week of class.

Prerequisites: Dogs must be age-appropriately vaccinated; Dogs must be healthy including being free from internal and external parasites (including fleas, ticks, worms, etc); Dog & Handler must have completed Intermediate Dog & Handler.

Schedule: Classes meet once a week for 6 consecutive weeks on the same day of the week and at the same time all 6 weeks unless otherwise noted.  The length of each class is 45 minutes.

Additional Fees & Requirements: Should the dog and handler want to test for the AKC Novice Tricks title, a testing fee of $10 must be paid on test day to Pet Education and Therapy. Dogs must have an AKC, PAL, or AKC Canine Partners number to earn a title. Paperwork must be submitted to the AKC by the owner and requires a $20 processing fee.
